This information is provided by Dr Sharon O'Brien.
GMC reg: 3576931I was appointed as a Consultant Gastroenterologist and General Physician at Central Middlesex Hospital in 1999. I trained at St Vincent’s University Hospital in Dublin and completed my specialist training at The Middlesex and Central Middlesex Hospitals in London. My major research interest was in the field of cholestatic liver disease. This was the subject of many publications and her M.D. thesis. I have also published research on portal haemodynamics in patients with chronic liver disease, the use of metal stents in the management of benign and malignant biliary obstruction and the identification of TPMT polymorphisms in the prediction of myelosuppression in patients taking azathioprine. I have presented my research at national and international scientific meetings. In my NHS practice I have managed patients with a wide spectrum of gastrointestinal, liver, pancreatic and biliary disorders as well as working as a General Physician. Until 2018 I was the lead physician for IBD at Central Middlesex Hospital, running a dedicated clinic for patients with Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s disease. I am committed to providing the highest standards of patient care and communication. Over the years I have had excellent results from patient satisfaction surveys and countless complimentary letters from patients. As a female gastroenterologist at the Clementine Churchill Hospital, I am pleased to provide a service for women with gastrointestinal problems. I no longer perform endoscopic procedures however and if endoscopic investigation clinically indicated I will refer to another specialist colleague.
