I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in Hip and Knee surgery, Trauma and Limb Reconstruction. My NHS practice is based at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, and Perth Royal Infirmary. I have been a Consultant in NHS Tayside since 2012. I qualified from the University of Dundee in 2002, and trained in Tayside and Glasgow, before undertaking specialist fellowships in Lower Limb Arthroplasty and Computer Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital Clydebank, and in Limb Reconstruction at the Russian Ilizarov Scientific Centre for Restorative Traumatology and Orthopaedics, Kurgan, Siberia. I maintain a keen interest and have a diploma in Sport and Exercise Medicine. I am a recognised surgical trainer and an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at University of Dundee Medical School. I am happy to see patients of all ages with hip or knee pain. I undertake clinics at Tayside Complete Health and Circle Kings Park Hospital every week, and offer a swift pathway of person-centred consultation, easy access to CT or MRI scans locally (if clinically required), and offer non-operative management such as joint injection in the clinic. Should we decide that surgery is required, I can readily offer the following treatments at Circle Health Group’s Kings Park Hospital in Stirling: hip replacement surgery knee replacement surgery (total and partial replacement) customised Conformis knee replacement surgery keyhole(arthroscopic) knee surgery daycase joint replacement surgery I work with an excellent team of anaesthetists, nurses and physiotherapists; our focus is on achieving the best possible outcome for each individual person. I use modern clinically proven implants and perform surgery on adults of all ages, using enhanced recovery techniques. For selected patients, I am able to offer joint replacement as a daycase procedure at Kings Park Hospital. I am a strong believer in the proven benefits of partial (unicompartmental) knee replacement (for suitable individuals), which is less invasive and has the potential for shorter recovery time and greater satisfaction rates than total knee replacement. I am one of a small number of surgeons in Scotland accredited to perform the Conformis custom knee replacement, a personalised knee replacement manufactured to fit your own knee, rather than using an "off the shelf" implant. This leads to less pain, higher satisfaction rates and a more natural feeling knee. I am a trainer of other surgeons in this technique. I am registered with all major UK health insurers and I do not require a GP referral for consultation. For more information, please visit my website: www.gavinloveorthopaedics.co.uk
