Dr Simon Everett

Born in 1967 and grew up in the south of England, I trained in medicine in Leeds, qualified in 1991, then pursued post graduate training in medicine in Yorkshire. In 1994 I began to specialise in gastroenterology, following a training programme through Yorkshire and pursuing research into H.pylori and gastric cancer under the guidance of Professor Tony Axon. I was appointed as a consultant gastroenterologist at the General Infirmary Leeds as a locum in 2001, then substantive in 2002, one of a team of just 3 consultants. I immediately took unofficial managerial responsibility for the endoscopy unit at LGI and then was appointed into various lead clinician and clinical director roles in the Trust from 2007 until 2018, during which time I have overseen substantial changes to the organisation of gastrointestinal services in Leeds, including the merger of all endoscopy units and gastroenterology services into one team based on St James' site, with one of the largest endoscopy services in the country and a team of 18 consultants. I have served on British and European endoscopy committees and am committed to the delivery of high quality procedures, ranging from simple diagnostic to advanced therapeutic endoscopy. My present focus is on establishing Leeds at the forefront of endoscopy training in the UK. Outside of work I am a lifelong Leeds United fan. I played rugby at a mediocre level until my mid 30s. I am now a keen cyclist, runner and triathlete and enjoy winter ski mountaineering in Scotland and the Alps. I live in Ikley with my family and dog.
