GMC reg: 3326631I am a consultant specialist in respiratory and general medicine. My qualifications are MB.BS, MD, FRCP. I am registered with the General Medical Council and on the Specialist Register for Respiratory Medicine since 1999. My undergraduate training was at Charing Cross and Westminster Hospitals. I began training in respiratory medicine in Plymouth in 1992 before moving to the Royal Brompton Hospital in London to do a research degree in respiratory physiology. I then spent a year at St George’s Hospital in London, which included 6 months on the lung transplant unit. I returned to the Royal Brompton Hospital to complete my training while working for several internationally renowned lung specialists. I joined Derriford Hospital in 1999 and am now the senior respiratory consultant in the department. I was recruited to set up services for patients with sleep apnoea and ventilatory failure and we now have one of the largest and most experienced services in the South West. I was involved in establishing the lung cancer fast track service but now devote a lot of my clinical time to patients with COPD and pulmonary hypertension. I have established Derriford Hospital as a shared care service for pulmonary hypertension with support from hospitals in Cambridge and London. Under my leadership we can provide care for patients in Devon and Cornwall with all types of pulmonary hypertension. Away from the wards and clinics I have been an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and have chaired the South West respiratory training committee. I have been clinical director for medicine at Derriford Hospital. I supervise a number of doctors in training. We have successfully published a number of research articles on care for respiratory patients. I have general experience across the full range of respiratory conditions. Particular areas of interest are chronic ventilatory failure due to severe lung or neuromuscular disease, pulmonary embolism and pulmonary hypertension, sleep apnoea, COPD and occupational lung diseases. When I am not at work, I like to spend my free time outside. I particularly enjoy cycling and tennis, but also gardening and growing vegetables.
