Dr John Paul Carpenter

Dr Carpenter trained at Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospitals (University of London), qualifying in 1996. His subspecialty training in Cardiology was in the Wessex Deanery (University Hospitals Southampton). He spent 3 years at Royal Brompton Hospital from 2007-2010, undertaking a higher research degree at Imperial College (National Heart and Lung Institute), winning the Thesis prize for 2010. He spent a further year as a Heart Failure / Imaging Fellow in Southampton before returning to London as a locum consultant at the Brompton Hospital before being appointed to a consultant post in Cardiology in Poole. He is Clinical Lead for Cardiology in Poole Hospital as well as Chair of the European Examination Board for Cardiovascular MRI (European Society of Cardiology, European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging - EACVI). He is also an advisor to the EACVI certification board for cardiac CT and is a Founder Board Member of the British Cardio-Oncology Society. He has been a member of the Programme Committee for three major international congresses (2017-2019) and has been an invited Faculty member for multiple national and international meetings in the field of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Imaging. Dr Carpenter has a specific interest in General Cardiology and Non-Invasive Assessment. This includes clinical care and consultations for patients with cardiovascular problems both as outpatients and inpatients. In addition, Dr Carpenter performs the following investigations / treatments: 1. Echocardiography - Transthoracic Echo, Transoesophageal Echo, Stress Echo (exercise and pharmacological stress). 2. Cardiovascular MRI (including stress MRI) 3. Cardiac CT 4. Pacemaker implantation, box-change and follow-up 5. Implantable loop recorders 6. Cardiovascular monitoring (ambulatory ECG and blood pressure monitoring)
