Mr Christopher Chan is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at Barts NHS Trust. He graduated from the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy"s and St Thomas"s Hospital, London in 1991, and was on the surgical training programmes in Cambridge and London. Mr Chan was awarded a MRC Clinical fellowship researching into pelvic floor dysfunction which culminated in a PhD. He went onto further sub-specialist colorectal training fellowships to Sydney, Paris and St Mark"s Hospital, Harrow. Mr Chan has a broad experience in both elective and emergency, open, and laparoscopic and robotic colorectal surgery but special expertise in complex colorectal diseases. These include colorectal cancer, Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative colitis, enterocutaneous fistula, Intestinal Failure, complex anal fistula, anorectal and pelvic floor problems (incontinence, evacuatory difficulty, constipation) and pelvic floor reconstruction. Mr Chan is also the lead colorectal surgeon for The Endometriosis Centre at The Harley Street Clinic. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals in the fields of general surgery and coloproctology. In addition, he is the author a number of best-selling MRCS books and has contributed to chapters in major surgical textbooks. Mr Chan's research interests include exploring new techniques for the treatment of faecal incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction, ultra-low sphincter preserving resections and inflammatory bowel disease. He is actively involved in teaching and lecturing at all levels including MB BS, MRCS, Intercollegiate FRCS examinations and Royal College of Surgeons courses and a past organiser of MRCS revision courses. He is an invited speaker at national and international conferences.
