Mr Caesar Wek is a dual fellowship trained Consultant Orthopaedic & Trauma surgeon. He is a Specialist Hip and Knee Replacement surgeon with a particular interest in Revision Hip Replacement surgery. Key conditions Caesar treats are Hip and Knee osteoarthritis, and procedures he offers include Total Hip Replacement, Hip Revision surgery and Knee Replacement. Dual fellowship-trained, Caesar is one of only a handful of surgeons in Dorset currently performing minimally invasive (small-scar) Hip Replacement surgery, using the SPAIRE and Piriformis sparing surgical approaches. The advantage of these techniques is that, as the hip muscles are spared, the usual 6-12 weeks of hip precautions (which protect against hip dislocation) are not required. He mastered these techniques during his fellowship training at prestigious Specialist centres in London, which highlights his dedication to finding creative solutions for his patients. Caesar graduated from the University of Manchester Medical School and obtained a BSc (Hons) in Orthopaedic Sciences from University College London, where he received a prize for research conducted at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore. He completed his specialist Orthopaedic training in London, on the South-East Thames program. This included placements at tertiary hospitals such as King's College Hospital and Guy's & St Thomas' Hospitals in London. Caesar was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2020 and further honed his skills through completion of the Royal Bournemouth Hip Fellowship and the Revision Hip & Knee Replacement Fellowship at St. George's Hospital in London. In addition to his clinical expertise, Caesar has a strong interest in leadership and education. He completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Leadership as part of the national British Orthopaedic Association Future Leaders Program. He was also awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education whilst serving as an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at Barts & The London School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2012. Caesar has authored a book chapter on Minimally invasive (small scar) Hip Replacement surgery and has published widely in major Orthopaedic journals. He regularly attends and presents at national, and international, conferences keeping up to date with the latest techniques. Caesar has held the post of Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon at Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust since July 2023 where he is also Orthopaedic Clinical Lead for Trauma, Hip Fractures & Metastatic Bone Disease.
