GMC reg: 4449168Mr Abu-Rajab studied medicine at Glasgow University graduating in 1997. He commenced early orthopaedic training at the Victoria Infirmary and Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Alongside this he undertook a period of research at Strathclyde University attaining a Masters of Philosophy (Mphil) in Bioengineering before being appointed to the specialist registrar training programme in the West of Scotland. He subsequently trained in numerous specialist centres throughout the West of Scotland, before becoming a Consultant in 2008. He was awarded the Zimmer Travelling Fellowship in 2008 and visited multiple specialist centres in North America. Since appointment he has worked as a consultant in the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, where he was Clinical Director for 5 years, as well as introducing enhanced recovery and accelerated discharge to the department. Mr Abu-Rajab has a special interest in hip and knee replacement surgery, including computer assisted/navigated knee replacement surgery. He also carries out knee arthroscopy and the management of cartilage tears (meniscectomy) and advises on the investigation and non-operative management of low back pain and sciatica. Mr Abu-Rajab has an interest in teaching and was involved in setting up and running an annual postgraduate diploma course in computer assisted knee surgery, educating surgeons regarding the principles, applications and practical aspects of computer assisted (navigated) knee replacement surgery. He sits on the Scottish Government Advisory group for Hip Fracture Care and is a committee member of the Scottish Committee for Orthopaedics and Trauma.
