PHIN currently has two products, the public facing PHIN Website for patients and the PHIN Portal, which is used by hospitals and consultants to submit and review data about their activity.  These applications are built using Microsoft technologies and will be developed further over the next several years.  

The UX/UI Design Lead will work closely with the Digital Products Director, Product Manager, Business Analyst, , and other business stakeholders to design product solutions that meet the users’ needs and requirements.

The role comprises mainly UX and UI design with some elements of graphic design and a strong focus on digital accessibility. It will also include UX testing with both internal and external users, who are often time limited.

UX/UI solution designs must be clear and intuitive to assist users in their navigation through both the portal and website. Graphs, tables, and other statistical information may be developed in liaison with various business teams.

The UX/UI Design Lead will produce wireframes and assets that can be easily interpreted and implemented by our in-house Development team.

Presentations to the wider team, including the Leadership Team, will be required at times to demonstrate new ideas, functionality, user testing results, or navigation improvements.

In conjunction with stakeholders, the UX/UI Design Lead will identify opportunities to optimise the user journey and use their creative thinking to bring solutions to life.

Key deliverables

  •  Researching and developing design solutions in collaboration with the Product Manager and other stakeholders
  • Conducting market and user research, preparing and leading user testing sessions
  • Supporting the Development team by producing high quality design assets and relevant documentation
  • Ensuring that UX/UI design solutions meet the business requirements, and can be implemented within the agreed timeframes
  • Proactively managing stakeholders who may have conflicting priorities
  • Ensuring that security and privacy are always considered as part of a solution.
  • Ensuring that design solutions meet disability and accessibility standards.
  • Contributing to the production of graphic elements to support end user documentation and training materials.
  • Presenting programme and user data to highlight issues, risks and support decision-making.
  • Identifying opportunities for improvement and monitor KPIs.

Skills and experience

  • The appointed candidate will have a proven track record of successful user testing, solution design and delivery of complex and data-led user journey projects, working with multiple internal and external stakeholders and relevant technologies.
  • You will be an experienced practitioner of user centred design with experience of standard UX/UI design tools, such as Adobe XD or similar.
  • You will have an excellent understanding of design thinking, defining the correct approach and delivering a solution within an agile environment.
  • Strong communication skills are essential to champion the benefits of your design with business stakeholders.
  • Collaboration with various teams is also critical as well as building relationships with colleagues.
  • The UX/UI Design Lead will demonstrate experience of leading complex, data driven initiatives with real drive and enthusiasm.
